What is Carmarthen?

The town
Carmarthen is the county town of Carmarthenshire, located in south-west Wales. Its Welsh language alter ego is Caerfyrddin, runs on a postal district between SA31 and SA33, and holds a population of just short of 20,000 citizens. It is served by National Rail links through Swansea to Cardiff in an easternly direction, and towards the west the coastal locations of Pembroke, Haverfordwest and Fishguard. The most common rail companies that serve the line is Arriva Trains Wales – or Trenau Arriva Cymru – and First Great Western, who provide a twice-daily service to London. A heritage railway line known as the Gwili Railway also runs on a seperate line, and journeys to Aberystwyth for the sake of tourists. Carmarthen also hosts a large proportion of Welsh speakers, with speakers of the native tongue claiming English as their second language. Other well known towns in Carmarthenshire include Llanelli, Ammanford, and Llandeilo.
The blog
The title Carmarthen was picked at random from page 16 of the battered atlas that sits at the foot of my bed. It is also a place I have yet to visit.
Honest.
